C3 HRI SYSTEM
Introduction
The C3 HRI SYSTEM is a communications based system for activating
Crossing Warning Devices. The system has 3 major component sub-systems, namely
Locomotive, Crossing and Advanced Warning. The sub-systems work together in a
fail-safe manner to provide reliable, inexpensive crossing protection for low
volume grade crossings. Because the C3 HRI SYSTEM, is solar powered and compact
enough to be installed on existing infrastructure, significant cost savings can
be realized, both in installation and maintenance. The system provides features
not found on any existing technology systems, which enhance safety and lower
operating costs.
Features:
- Reduced Installation costs.
- Solar operation eliminates utility costs
- Reduced maintenance costs.
- Positive feedback to train crews of safe
crossing operation.
- Automatic notification to service personnel of
unsafe crossings.
- Automatic data logging on locomotives, tracks
position, time, speed and crossing performance..
- Self-diagnostics on crossing system prior to
train arrival.
- Dual redundant locomotive systems.
- In cab alarm for unsafe crossing.
- Active Advance Warning supported.

Maintenance
Crossing Devices
- Monthly
and quarterly on-site test as prescribed by FRA
- System
operation during tests is confirmed using C3 Test Set, which is a laptop
computer, connected to locomotive simulator unit.
- A
monthly island test is performed using a calibrated magnetic fixture
placed on electronic housing to simulate train proximity.
- Battery
condition and grounds are confirmed during these tests.
Locomotive
- Reviewing
log files from data logger can check system performance.
- Placing
primary system in failed condition will allow secondary system to be
tested.
- C3
Test Set with laptop can be used to verify proper system operation.
